Step-by-Step Guide
A 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio is ideal. Use 15g of coffee for 250g of water. Grind to a medium-fine consistency—similar to granulated sugar. The Wilfa Svart Aroma Grinder allows for precise control over grind size.
Step 2: Heat Your Water
Using filtered water, heat to 93°C for optimal flavour extraction. The Fellow Stagg EKG Kettle offers temperature precision and a gooseneck spout for controlled pouring.
Step 3: Prepare Your Filter & Dripper
Place a Hario V60 filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste. This also preheats your brewer. If using a Chemex, ensure the filter is positioned correctly for proper flow rate. Discard the rinse water.
Step 4: Bloom the Coffee
Place the ground coffee in the dripper and start with a bloom pour—slowly pour twice the weight of your coffee (e.g., 30g of water for 15g of coffee) in a circular motion. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds to allow gases to escape, enhancing flavour clarity.
Step 5: Pour in Stages
After blooming, continue pouring in slow, controlled circles. Pour in three or four stages, keeping the coffee bed evenly saturated. The total brew time should be 2.5 - 3.5 minutes, depending on your grind size and dripper type.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
Once the water has fully drained, remove the filter and give the coffee a gentle swirl before serving. Pour into a preheated mug for the best experience.

Tips for the Perfect Brew
✔ Use Fresh Coffee – Freshly roasted coffee retains its flavour and aroma best.
✔ Dial in Your Grind – If the coffee tastes bitter, try a coarser grind. If it’s too sour, grind finer.
✔ Control Your Pour – A gooseneck kettle allows for better precision and even extraction.
✔ Experiment – Try different beans and ratios to fine-tune your ideal brew.
