Nicaragua Matagalpa - Dark Roast

Orange
Nuts
Chocolate

A bold and satisfying coffee that highlights the natural richness of Nicaraguan high-altitude beans. Deep notes of dark chocolate and toasted nuts create warmth and depth, while a subtle hint of orange adds gentle brightness. The dark roast brings everything together into a smooth, rounded cup with low acidity and a lingering finish.

Best suited to espresso machines, bean-to-cup machines, and moka pots, where its rich chocolate notes and smooth body produce a bold, satisfying cup. It also works well in milk-based drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos, where its depth and sweetness stand up nicely to milk.

This coffee is grown in the Jinotega region of northern Nicaragua, where high-altitude conditions allow the cherries to mature slowly and develop deeper sweetness. Classified as Strictly High Grown (SHG) and European Preparation (EP), the beans are carefully selected for quality and consistency.

Produced by small farmers from the Asociación Aldea Global cooperative, this coffee supports sustainable farming practices and community development, benefiting more than 1,000 farming families, including members of the Chorotega Indigenous communities.

Taste Test. Looking forward to the other 2 to compare.
Looking for a deep coffee flavour in the morning before I go to work.

Uncharacteristically poor

I hve bought this bean several times and its always been top quality in termsof flavour and crema, extracting well with minimum of fuss. This last batch was the opposite; endless tweaking of crind and tamp failed to get a satisfactory extraction. Dare I suggest this sort of problem seems to have become more common in recent months, with consistency of product not being what it once was.

Coffee beans

I love all the roast coffee beans from Redber. I’ve just been using the Signature Blend which is particularly good. Lovely dark golden brown in the cup with texturised milk. I will be ordering more of this in future.

The dark roast is definitely our go-to coffee beans. A strong, bold taste but smooth and rich in taste. A firm favourite of ours.

Always reliable and up there with the best

Very nice balance of bitterness, sweetness, acidity, full body, orange, chocolate, nuts. Sweet finish, nice twang. Definite orange notes. Had this many times and it always delivers

OK, but a little too smooth for me

It’s a nice coffee, but a little too smooth round for my taste, not much bite, but it is of course a medium bodied, and my preference is towards industrial strength coffee's, so maybe this is not a fair criticism, does work fine as a Latte I think it would go well with a late-night whisky and some small but perfectly formed chocolates, what a splendid idea!

My go to coffee

Spent some time going through various coffees and now settled on this one. Strong, good flavour but not bitter, love it.

Amazingly fresh roasted beans

It is amazing how fresh these roasted beans are and the impact to the quality of the espresso it produces. The crema alone is indicative of what you are going to get and the taste and aromas fill any room. Fantastic.

Caveat emptor

I was beginning toi think Redber were superhumans who could do no wrong, until I got this. The chocolate note was definitley there, but I found it rather harsh and bitter, almost burnt, and VERY difficult to dial in for a proper esprersso extraction. The crema, though a good caramel colour, was rather lacking. All in all, not very much better than the mandehling I used to get from the siupermarket (and nearly twice the price). However other people seem to like it, so either I got a duff batch, or, as they say, de gustibus non est disputandum!
