Grown at high altitudes, between 1500-1700 meters above sea level, the coffee beans benefit from the perfect combination of rich volcanic soil, ideal climate, and skilled farmers. The coffee is made of varietals SL 28 and SL 34, two Arabica varieties known for their excellent cupping profiles, and Ruiru 11, a robusta hybrid that adds depth and complexity to the cup.
The beans undergo a fully washed process, which involves removing the outer cherry and fermenting the beans to remove any remaining mucilage before drying. This meticulous process contributes to the clean, bright acidity and full-bodied profile of Kenya Bora coffee.
When brewed, this coffee offers a full-bodied flavour profile with prominent notes of blackcurrant, hints of sweet molasses, and a subtle citrus finish. The aroma is equally enticing, with hints of caramel and a bright, vibrant acidity. These flavours and aromas make Kenya Bora Roast a perfect choice for cafetiere and filter coffees, allowing the unique tasting notes to shine through.
Aside from its exceptional taste, this coffee also has a heartwarming story behind it. The beans are sourced from the Iyego farmers cooperative washing station, which is funded by a charitable foundation through the "global coffee village" initiative. This project aims to provide support and resources to small-scale coffee farmers in Kenya, empowering them to produce high-quality coffee and improve their livelihoods.
