This month we would love to introduce a customer of ours who is very passionate about local produce and drinks – Godalming Deli.
The Godalming Deli prides itself on local quality produce from independent suppliers: everything from freshly roasted coffee, jams and chutneys to fine cheeses, freshly baked breads, stunning wines and decent craft beers! Not to mention the extensive amount of refill ingredients, and their immensely popular gift hampers.
The Deli is nestled on the high street in the picturesque town of Godalming in Surrey. Enter through the front door and you are immediately swept to foodie heaven with swathes of fresh local produce to heighten the senses. On the wall you will notice a beautifully drawn map of the local area on the wall with stocked suppliers’ locations.
It is not limited to produce however, Kevin and his friendly team are avid foodies with serious cooking skills to boot. Their menu may be small but shouts pure deliciousness for breakfast or lunch. The Deli Shakshuka with tomato sauce, eggs & chorizo on toast is just to die for. Pair that with their freshly roasted Redber Coffee and breakfast just became the best meal of the day! It’s highly recommended.
Now they are open again indoors ( hurrah ), the deli is thriving and are delighted to be back offering their popular Deli After Dark wine tasting and small plate sessions.
Kevin, the owner of Godalming Deli, has kindly showed us around his shop and we had a nice chat about the current business situation, the future outlook and coffee of course. Kevin is a customer very close to our heart as they were the first commercial customers of ours.
Over a cup of coffee, Kevin explained that lockdown had been tough because it was so new to everyone, their main saviour was being able to adapt strongly to the demand for online ordering and stocking items. With competitors on the high street closing during lockdown, it gave the deli a huge opportunity to embrace this new way of working and even allowing the team to extend their ranges of “lockdown essential items” such as flour, pasta and rice. Food parcels were popular, with locals rushing to support the deli and utilise the new services it offered.
Kevin is an inspirational and passionate business owner, he says the next chapter is constantly adapting, and the high demand for outside catering could be where the deli goes next. They recently catered for their first wedding since lockdown was eased, and it was a huge success. They created stunning Mediterranean platters with olives, meats and cheeses!
