Coffee of the Month May 2023 - Costa Rica La Hermosa Honey Processed

Costa Rica La Hermosa Honey Processed is a great example of the amazing coffees coming out of Costa Rica. The coffee is grown in the Tarrazu region, which is divided into three parts - Dota, Tarrazzu, and Leon Cortes. This region is known for its high quality coffees, which are grown by producers who have a deep knowledge of agronomy and the processing of their coffee.


The coffee is grown by Coope Dota, and is made up of the Caturra, Catuai, and Obata varietals - the latter being a cross between Timor Hybrid and Villa Sarchi brought to Costa Rica from Brazil by ICafe in 2014. It is harvested between December and March, and is processed using the honey process - 70% of the mucilage is left on the bean before it is dried on patios.

 



The resulting coffee is characterized by a caramel, grapefruit, and raspberry flavour, a sweet honey aroma, a medium body, and a clean acidity. It is perfect for espresso based drinks, aeropress, filter, and cafetiere coffees, and has a SCA score of 84.
