Here at Redber Coffee Roastery we pride ourselves on being a somewhat "sweet shop" of coffees. With over 30 single origin coffee beans and our very own blends, it can be overwhelming when choosing a coffee for the first time. One thing that we can guarantee: there is something for everyone!
There are several ways you can choose a coffee for yourself, below are a few options:
Coffee by Region
Coffee flavour notes can be distinguished by their county of origin. It really is exceptional the difference of tastes varying between countries. Below we have put together a diagram of coffee flavours by location, and what to expect from a coffee from that area. This, however, is a generalisation - and you will find some coffees outside of the norm for their area. But this is a useful rule of thumb:
- African Coffee Beans - Bright, Acidic and Fruit. Trying an African coffee for the first time can be life-changing, and may change your outlook on coffee. Africa is actually the birthplace of coffee, you can read more about it's discover in our blog post here.
- Central & South American Coffee Beans - Sweet, Nutty, Spicy and Chocolatey. Huge in popularity, central and South American coffees are what some might call a "typical" coffee flavour - but they can be so much more than just "chocolatey".
- Asian Coffee Beans - Earthy, Spicy & Heavy Bodied. Extremely unique, Asian coffees tend to combine earthy and spicy flavour notes to create rich, bold coffees.
Coffee by Flavour
If you know what flavours you like, then you can certainly start here when it comes to coffee! You may have noticed that we have displayed all of our coffee visually with their flavour notes - to give you an idea of what your cup will taste like. Some of our top coffee flavour notes include the following: Chocolatey, Nutty & Fruity.
Coffee by Brewing Method
Another way to shop for coffees is by brewing method. Under our menu you will find coffees we have put together to suit each brewing method. Again, it still all comes down to your tasting preferences. We tend to find chocolatey coffees are more popular for use in an espresso/bean to cup machine. However, we are also seeing a rise in popularity with the African espresso - giving a sharper, more acidic espresso which might be more to your liking. If you are opting for a lighter, fruitier coffee, you will notice those flavours are enhanced using a pour over brewing method.
